Talented Cambria tutor continues to blossom with place in national floristry final

A TALENTED tutor has a Spring in her step after being nominated for a national title.

Coleg Cambria lecturer Amanda Ellis is a finalist in the Floristry Tutor of the Year category of the British Florist Association (BFA) Industry Awards.

And the college itself was shortlisted for Floristry Training Provider of the Year.

Based at Yale in Wrexham, Amanda – from Ysbyty Ifan, Conwy Valley, says Cambria’s blossoming Floristry qualifications reinforce their standing in the competition.

“It’s fantastic to be recognised as an institution and personally, especially after the challenges of the last 18 months,” said Amanda, who has been with the college for 25 years.

“Floristry has moved from Northop to our new building in Wrexham so it’s a fresh start for us.

“Our classes are full and there is a lot of interest and demand for skilled people to work in the industry; a lot of the traditional methods such as wiring and taping have been lost so that’s something we focus on.

“With us the students get experience of working events and weddings, as well as the practical side in the classroom, so they are ready for their careers on completing the course.

“For that to be viewed so positive externally by the BFA is a huge honour – I’m absolutely thrilled.”

A spokesperson for the BFA added: “Congratulations to the nominees and best of luck to you all.”

The prizegiving will be held at the Jurys Inn, Hinckley, Leicestershire, on October 30.
