WITH growing pressure on GPs and rising demand for preventative personal healthcare, a new service is bringing back the family doctor for families across North Wales.
Launching this month ahead of its full opening in January, West End Health is set to redefine local private healthcare.
Founded by lifelong friends Aaron Ferguson and Andy Boyd, and Dr Trevor Ferguson, the Colwyn Bay-based service will provide the region’s first premium GP and preventative health membership.
West End Health is designed to provide unlimited GP access, same-day appointments, and comprehensive annual health and dental assessments, all without the need to travel to the big cities.
“We’re bringing back what people miss and need most in healthcare: personal care, time and trust,” said Aaron, Managing Director of West End Dental and one of the driving forces behind the project.
“The NHS is full of brilliant people doing their absolute best under immense pressure, but the system is often forced into reactive care. West End Health is built to do the opposite — to give people time, continuity and proactive support so we can keep them well for years to come.”
Their slogan — Reassured today. Protected for the years ahead — captures the philosophy of ongoing, preventative care.
Each adult patient will receive an in-depth, two-stage annual health review, combining medical and dental screening, targeted cancer checks, and a full results consultation, alongside unlimited GP appointments and direct same-day access to their doctor, with 30-minute appointments as standard.
“If you ring us at 2pm, there’s a good chance you’ll be seen before 5pm,” said Andy.
“It’s about certainty and continuity — knowing your doctor and knowing you’ll be seen when you need to be.”
The clinical team is led by Dr Faiza Murad, who has a background in endocrinology and internal medicine, specialising in diabetes, weight management, and women’s health, including menopause care.
They are supported by Dr Trevor Ferguson (Dental), and between them bring decades of experience across a wide range of disciplines.
“We’ve built West End Health around the idea that the best care starts with relationships and real understanding,” said Andy.
“People deserve a doctor who knows their story, takes the time to listen, and works with them to stay well. That’s exactly what this model makes possible.
“We’re not here to replace the NHS; we’re creating an additional layer of support for families who want time, continuity and proactive care that’s increasingly difficult to access in mainstream services.”
The founders have plans to expand the concept beyond Colwyn Bay, developing a multi-site operation to create a model of joined-up, preventative care accessible across North Wales and, in time, beyond.
Building on the trusted foundation of West End Dental — where the new service will be based — they aim to fill a gap in the region’s healthcare landscape by offering city-standard quality and continuity of care at a local level.
“This is the first service of its kind in North Wales,” said Aaron.
“Families shouldn’t have to travel to big cities for modern, joined-up care. West End Health brings that standard home, combining prevention, convenience and genuine relationships.”
For Aaron and Andy, who first met at Conway Road Infants School more than 35 years ago, the project is deeply personal.
“We’ve been friends since childhood and have shared a lifelong passion for building things that make a difference,” said Andy.
“Now, as parents ourselves, we’re proud to be creating a service that helps people live longer, healthier lives — a long-term commitment to raising the standard of healthcare here at home and giving families the peace of mind we want for our own.”
Places are limited and exclusive Founder Member offers will include 15% off Adult and Family plans (two adults and two children) and a refer-a-friend scheme, with more details to follow.
