COLEG CAMBRIA joined organisations across the country in celebrating Welsh language rights.
And the north east Wales college has unveiled a team of ambassadors who will support and guide fellow learners and members of their branch of Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol – Cangen Cymraeg Cambria – for years to come.
Cambria also joined public institutions across the country in celebrating Welsh Language Rights Day earlier this month.
Welsh Language Commissioner Aled Roberts was responsible for coordinating the occasion and was joined by more than 120 county councils, colleges and universities, health boards, emergency services and more.
He said: “Since the introduction of Welsh language standards I have seen a transformation in the rights of Welsh speakers and learners.
“The Welsh language is now part of the way organisations plan their services and increasingly people have confidence a quality service is available to them through the medium of Welsh.
“The standards have also led to the establishment of rights for employees to use Welsh at work, significantly increasing the opportunities to use the language on a daily basis.”
The Commissioner created a package of marketing resources for those participating on the day, and to support future campaigns.
Cangen Cymraeg Cambria branch officer Haf Everiss said: “We are delighted to back the initiative and have marked the occasion by unveiling seven new Welsh language ambassadors to work across our college sites.”
Llinos Roberts, Head of Corporate Communications and Welsh Language, added: “The college is committed to supporting the Commissioner and helping the Welsh Government to achieve its target of one million Welsh speakers and will continue to champion bilingualism across our sites and among staff, learners and the community,” she said.
“The campaign is another great example of how more and more people are working in unison to preserve and celebrate Welsh across society and in the workplace, and we are fully behind it.”
