A SPECIAL centenary open day will be held at one of the country’s top land-based colleges.
Coleg Cambria Llysfasi will host the event from 10am-2pm on Saturday (June 26).
Adhering to social distancing and Coronavirus safety measures, staff at the Denbighshire site – celebrating its 100th anniversary – look forward to welcoming visitors for the first time since the onset of the pandemic last Spring.
Virtual ‘talk and tour’ activities have taken place over past months but Elin Roberts, Site Lead and Assistant Principal of Technical Studies at Llysfasi, says they are thrilled to open their doors to the public again.
“We can’t wait to have people back at Llysfasi, especially prospective students and their families,” said Elin.
“There have been a lot of exciting developments over the last year we want to share and plans for the future that will be of interest to those looking to study with us from September, as well as our partners in the agriculture, agricultural engineering and forestry sectors.
“We can assure everyone attending this Saturday that safety is paramount, so social distancing measures will be in place and activities will be outdoors.
“We have our fingers crossed for sunshine and a good turnout; this is a special year for us so it will be fantastic to finally have people back on-site to see the incredible work that takes place here.”
Participants will have the opportunity to meet tutors, the student services team and current learners, as well as taking a tour.
Among the courses available to discuss are Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Care and Management, Animal Nursing, Dog Grooming, and Forestry and Country Management, notably the Tilhill Diploma.
With plans for a carbon neutral farm and growing partnerships with innovative organisations such as Kubota, Tilhill and AGCO, Elin is confident the first 100 years of Llysfasi have laid the foundations for future success.
“There are so many opportunities and options for anyone joining the college,” she said.
“We will continue navigating the challenges of Covid but have also been thinking long-term as our curriculum, technologies and facilities continue to advance, so it will be positive to demonstrate that this weekend.”
