Free breakfast for Coleg Cambria students returning from COVID-19 lockdown

STUDENTS returning to Coleg Cambria following the Coronavirus lockdown will be given a breakfast boost.

The college’s sites in Wrexham, Deeside, Northop and Llysfasi are offering free food and drink to all learners before lectures begin each morning.

They will have a choice of toast, a cereal bar, fruit and hot and cold drinks.

Chief Executive Yana Williams believes the offering will ensure students start the day with a positive mindset.

“A healthy breakfast is vital as part of a balanced diet and is strongly linked to helping people concentrate and improve performance,” said Ms Williams.

“We are also aware that not all families can afford to provide a meal each morning, or they do not have the time, so this will alleviate some of that pressure.”

She added: “We are at the heart of our communities and it is important that as we return to education and open the doors to new and existing students, their safety and wellbeing is our top priority.

“This service is inclusive, promotes healthy living and ensures the most vulnerable among our learners have access to a nutritious snack.

“At a time when we need to come together and support one another, we hope it is well-received and look forward to having everyone back.”

Cambria has been lauded for its Active Cambria programme, which promotes health and wellbeing, exercise and mental health awareness among staff, students, and their families.

It was developed in line with national bodies including Sport Wales and Colegau Cymru and serves as best practice for some of the country’s top organisations using three distinct categories – Get Active, Elite Sport, and Future Sport.

The free breakfast offer is available at the canteen on each site from Monday to Friday between 8am and 8.45am.
