BBC business expert Dr Paul Thomas to headline North Wales leadership programme

ONE of the country’s brightest business minds is among the headline speakers on a popular leadership programme.

Dr Paul Thomas will discuss themes including change management, employee engagement, innovation and sustainability with the next CMI Level 5-7 20Twenty Business Growth cohort in Wrexham.

The former BBC Wales Business Doctor and chairman of Sport Wales is now at the helm of think tank DNA Global Solutions.

He is one of 10 well-known faces that will present to the group over 10 months, beginning this December.

Dr Thomas says the value 20Twenty can bring to companies in Powys, Wrexham and Flintshire is “invaluable” and looks forward to appearing at the first seminar, which explores the topic of Personal Business and Team Growth.

The fact the scheme is part-funded up to 70% of the cost by the European Social Fund via Welsh Government is also a major selling point, he added.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work with companies the world over, and those we have here in Wales in many different industries are among the most forward-thinking,” said Dr Thomas.

“But often the next generation of workers and leaders is overlooked as chief executives and directors take a short-term approach focused on profit rather than sustainability and the future.

“I am proud to be part of the 20Twenty programme because it encourages business owners to look at all aspects of their day to day operations while having a clear vision of the road ahead.”

Up to 25 companies will be represented in the cohort, to the delight of 20Twenty Project Manager, Gwenllian Owen.

“The programme is going from strength to strength, attracting some of the biggest names in business to share their stories, advice and views on the worlds of work, leadership, strategy and more,” said Gwenllian.

“To have so many fantastic firms from across the region sending their employees and managers to join us is very heartening and shows the value 20Twenty has already brought to so many different industries.”

She added: “We look forward to again welcoming Dr Thomas as he always provides an insightful and interesting view on leadership and business, including how to succeed on the international stage.

“He is one of many brilliant speakers we have welcomed over the last couple of years, and there are many more to come as we continue to grow and help develop the next generation of business leaders in Wales and beyond.”

The upcoming sessions come after a fascinating evening with 20Twenty founder Professor Brian Morgan and Penderyn Distillery Managing Director Stephen Davies over the summer, held at Holt Lodge, near Wrexham.

At the event, Mr Davies revealed the company will be expanding into other areas of the country in the near future, with plans for Llandudno include a retail outlet, visitor centre and training hub for workshops.

The 20Twenty Business Growth Programe offers a range of recognised leadership qualifications from Level 3 through to Level 7, all of which are accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Free taster sessions will be held across north east Wales over two days from September 12, which include a chance to meet the team, take part in workshops, find out more about the qualifications on offer and networking

The next 20Twenty Business Growth Programme aimed at Middle Managers: Team Leaders/Supervisors also takes place in September. Places are still available. Call 01248 388823 or email kelly-ann.hughes@bangor.ac.uk for more information.
